Our Vision

Conception

Goodwill Law was born out of empathy and frustration with the lack of innovation, flexibility and value in traditional legal services. Instead, we built a firm that reflects the needs of a modern workforce whilst utilizing technology to achieve internal efficiencies and superior client experience.

Traditional law firms are just that, traditional. Pen and paper traditional... High-overhead pyramids with a core of partners supported by a larger cohort of associates and lawyers. All charging clients dated and exorbitant hourly rates.

We re-engineered this dated structure. Abolished the traditional hierarchy, stripped out the high overheads and pretentious building spaces, re-tooled the ratio of support staff to lawyers and did away with archaic business practices.

We are a firm for modern and largely self-sufficient lawyers who understand that technology is a tool to be exploited, not feared. A tool for not only achieving internal efficiencies but greater autonomy, flexibility as well as improved client support and engagement.

And perhaps best of all, by coupling the latest technology with lean business practices we are able to ensure our service costs are affordable and clear from the outset.

Whilst we like to think we are fairly unique, we continue to innovate and develop our understanding of the interaction between modern business and technology. This perpetual pursuit allows us to adapt to new technologies, increase our productivity and efficiency and continue to improve client support. In this way we hope to continue developing our positive reputation and relationships with clients.

Goodwill is the only asset that competition cannot undersell or destroy.

Sustainable Legal Careers

Our lawyers are technically excellent professionals that care about, and take the time to understand, their client’s needs. They also enjoy life and appreciate a genuine work-life balance.

Goodwill Law knows that its workforce is not only its greatest resource, but is also its greatest responsibility. Respecting the role of work to the individual is an important foundation of this responsibility. We recognise that whilst work contributes to our lawyers careers, security and purpose, it also provides the financial means for people to live and pursue their personal and family goals. Enjoying these rewards will always require hard work, commitment and sometimes sacrifice. But at Goodwill Law, we believe success should never come at the expense of personal well-being.

Traditionally, a lawyer’s primary measure for gauging his or her success is often their ability to meet or exceed an ever increasing budget. The higher the budget, the greater the firm’s profit and, theoretically at least, the higher the lawyer’s salary. The nature of this cyclic exercise fosters high fees for clients and tremendous pressure on lawyers who see their path to progression conditional upon budget success. Goodwill Law isn’t about that life.

We understand the health of a person’s relationship with their workplace affects their performance as well as their well-being, both physically and psychologically. We have developed progressive processes and cultures which prioritises autonomy, accountability and flexibility. In achieving this we aim to attract and retain the best people and support them to do their best work.
